Dell laptop gaming reviews

Avoid using harsh substances like commercial cleaners or blunt cleaning products like paper towels. A microfiber cloth is all you need to keep everything nice and shiny. If battery life is critical to you, get a Dell laptop that supports ExpressCharge. Most laptop batteries take several hours to recharge, so being able to recoup the majority of a full charge quickly means that your laptop can spend less time plugged into the wall and more time with you on the go.

It depends on how much you use them. Dell laptops are well-built and designed to last for years, but like all laptops, their batteries start to show their age anywhere between 18 and 24 months after purchase.

Dell offers two different gaming laptop lines: the G Series and the Alienware models. If you love first-person shooters or the latest triple-A titles, your games will run more smoothly on an Alienware machine.

Best Dell Laptops Updated November BestReviews spends thousands of hours researching, analyzing, and testing products to recommend the best picks for most consumers.

Bottom Line. Best of the Best. Check Price. Most Comprehensive Bottom Line. We have seen a few designs with low-profile mechanical keyboards, but even we admit they can be an acquired taste. Having your games load from an SSD instead of a hard drive significantly cuts down on load times. What does matter more today is the size of the SSD rather than the interface it uses.

If you go for laptop with a small SSD and large hard drive combo, expect to install your games to the hard drive. When laptop makers spec out gaming laptops, one of the levers they use to try to convince you to buy their product is upping the amount of RAM.

Anything more than 16GB our standard recommendation is usually a waste of money. You might want to blame laptop and PC makers for cynically using an erroneous spec to manipulate the public, but the blame actually lies with the average buyer.

PC makers have told us for years they only over-spec RAM because the public thinks more is better. Besides the amount of memory, a couple of other important, but not critical, questions to ask is what clock speed and what mode.

With games that are graphically intensive, the GPU is the primary bottleneck on performance. The basic lesson is you should opt for dual-channel memory bandwidth configurations when possible. There may be real competition between AMD and Intel when it comes to gaming CPUs in desktops now, but in gaming laptops, the world is still very much percent Intel.

Still, there are a few things you need to consider about the CPU for your gaming laptop. A typical Intel laptop CPU will pack from four to eight processor cores. We recommend that you not sweat the difference between 8th-gen and 9th-gen laptop CPUs.

Outside of security mitigations, the change is mostly a clock speed bump on Core i7 and Core i5 models. The key difference is at the high end, where the 9th-gen Core i9 gives you two more cores than the Core i7. How many cores do you need in a gaming laptop? For most people on a budget, a 4-core CPU with Hyper-Threading will function just fine in most games, especially when combined with a lower-cost and lower performance GPU.

Still, if you have the extra cash, a 6-core CPU with Hyper-Threading is likely the sweet spot for today and tomorrow. If you plan to stream your gaming live or edit it, investing in a 6-core is recommended. If you also plan to record and stream video, the 8-core will offer a performance benefit there, too. The single most important piece of hardware in a gaming laptop is undoubtedly the GPU. As with CPUs though, the good news is that the dominating products are top-notch.

The hardest part will be deciding just how much GPU you need. Our general guidance is to buy as fast a GPU as you can afford and are willing to heft. Our coveted 5 out of 5 rating should speak for itself.

Read the full review: Alienware m17 R4 The Dell XPS 17 is pricey but for good reason.

The laptop also offers a beautiful screen and a design that will take your breath away. All of this fits into a 0. We wish it came with more ports, but it is a nearly perfect laptop in every other way. Read the full review: Dell XPS 17 To be clear, Dell could have made it more powerful with a high-end RTX card.

Read the full review: Dell Precision Of course, being a budget laptop, some sacrifices have been made — namely, its build and heat management. But all of that just isn't enough to give it an enthusiastic recommendation.

At least not for the pricier configuration I tested. The issue I have is the G7 doesn't differentiate itself enough from the G5 for those on a budget. And for those less restricted by price, the Nvidia RTX graphics card in my review system pushes the price up so that it's not too far off from the nicer-looking and more capable Alienware m Unless you really want the RTX card's support for ray tracing or DLSS that improves lighting and detail realism in supported games there are only a couple dozen at the moment , you're better off getting the G7 with a GTX Ti chip, which performs nearly as well for less money.

In other words, if you're going to spend for the RTX , you might as well spend to have it in a better laptop like the m15, too.

That's not to say the Dell G7 15 is something you should stay away from.
