In reply to WilliamDz's post on October 29, It's been 24hrs and looks like adding the "autodisconnect" key with "ffffffff" value in the registry, did do the trick. Unfortunately while it did seemed to have worked, I'm back to windows disconnecting the drives. I'm sorry to say not even using the command to switch off autodisconnect worked. I have not tried PK's suggestion yet. I applied Win 7 SP1 on the system having the problem and am waiting to see if this resolves the issue.
